I got this book from Amazon because it was being spotlighted on the top free books. I was intrigued by the synopsis/teaser that was provided, but honestly not convinced it would be a good choice. It had the makings for a good read or a real doozy. It ended up being the former. I thoroughly enjoyed it and read though sleep-deprived. I liked the idea of the fairytales coming to life. I was most especially pleased that this is a book I can recommend without reserve to youth. No profanity. No inappr ...more

I’m sure most of people in this planet know who Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm are or at least familiar with some of stories they were collected. The brother Grimm and their stories are the main theme of this book. The main character, Wilhelmina or Mina Grime is a great great great granddaughter of Wilhelm Grimm. Apparently when the brothers collected the stories they made a deal with the fae. It caused a very long curse among The Grimms and Mina tended to break it free by write a new story.

When I saw the title, I was drawn in. I love all things fairy tales. I was just coming off some deeper reads, so wanted a fun, light read. This didnt disappoint. Its about a young lady whose last name is Grime... only to find out, its reall Grimm. She's a descendant of the Grimm family & has a curse on her. That explains why her mom moves her & her brother so quickly when something strange happens, or why she's accident prone & nothing seems to go her way.

She finds out she has to survive the Gri

What a pleasant surprise this book was. I picked it up as a freebie on the Kindle, and did not really expect much from it. It was refreshing to read a YA that does not contain vampires or werewolves.
I like the fact that Hahn is taking well known stories (folk tales) and using them to create adventure and mystery with young adults. Mina Grime, a descendant of Wilhelm Grimm, from Grimm's folktales, is thrown into a magical world in which she must complete the STORY in order to free her family, par

Ended up loving it! :)

It definitely started out slow and the writing wasn't perfect but the story was great and ultimately outshines the writing missteps.

The point of view does shift too often and everyone sounds like they're speaking from the same brain and that was pretty annoying. Also it seems to counteract this the writer used Mina's name so we'd know the narrator was speaking about Mina but it just was too much. Mina this... Mina that Mina said... But ultimately you get used to the writin

The plotline and story idea of this book was actually quite good and quite interesting. Unfortunately, I can't go above "it was okay" because I thought the writing was rushed and shallow. I understand this is a very short book but it felt REALLY short, with giant leaps of characters and wild jumps of mood/understanding.

But, those downsides made the book just feel more juvenile than *bad*, if you know what I mean.

If I treated this in my head *like* a fairy tale -- where the telling of the story i

I loved this book. I didn't know what to expect when I started it and even in the first couple of chapters I was thinking of different ways it could go. Loved that Chanda Hahn kept me interested, I didn't want to put the book down. The ending was horrible (in the best way) so I couldn't wait to pick up Fairest and start reading! ...more

This book is in dire, dire need of editing. Lots of grammatical errors and spelling errors, even more stilted prose. No one talks like the characters do in this book. The Grimm curse is a retread of the Tradition in the Five Hundred Kingdoms books. The stakes generally felt low.

The author shows promise, but even self-published books need editing.

I honesty wasn't sure about this book when I got it. It seemed interesting but I had been disappointed in most books that I had thought seemed interesting from the back synopsis. I ended up loving this book. I finished it in a day. That included studying for finals and going to a friends music recital. It was an amazing book though I wasn't too fond of the ending. But I also really liked the ending because it wasn't happy ever after. It was a really good book, the characters were really good. I ...more

Love fairy tales. So, I was totally excited about this one.

The Good: Cool premise. Fun, quick read. Great plot twist at the end!

The Bad: The characters feel like the came out of Twilight... which is NOT a good thing. And this is a book about fairy tales. So where are they? There's only two!

Will I read the sequel? Yep.

This book has a unique and interesting idea at its heart, but fails to live up to its potential for a couple of reasons, lack of grammatical editing (i.e. switching from present to past tense, sentences that are missing words or make no sense when read) and secondly is plot holes where the reader is forced via the story to make a leap that is not necessarily logical to the information given in the story (i.e. when Mina says she already figured out what Jared is). Although if you are familiar wit ...more

Young Adult Fantasy Loved it! A fresh new idea with all the makings of a great story. This book has humor, heartbreak, romance, and an intriguing antagonist. Excellent storytelling that lived up to the wonderfully creative plot. The heroine is strong and likeable. This book stands on its own, I didn't even realize it was a series until there weren't enough pages left to resolve the lingering questions. I will definitely read the rest of the series. With a story this good, it's easy to overlook t ...more

Grammatical errors aside I did find it to be a cute book of modern day fairy tales. if you like fairytales when you were young or even still I say check it out. I got it free on Itunes and Nook and hear its free on Amazon. I am planning on reading the next book in this series soon. I do hope they proofed the next one prior to release.

I absolutely loved this and wish to add it to my YA collection! The main character, Mina, is hilarious and down to earth. The story line isn't new but the way this author protrays it makes it very interesting and I had a hard time putting it down! If you enjoy fairy tales, clumsy characters, and a good story- read this! ...more
