This was a long, three-part story told by alternating chapters between the past and present. The main character is Judith Whitman who finds her life becoming less and less what she had first imagined. Took me a while to really get into the book but then I wanted to read more every chance I had. The characters were well developed and the background characters and scenery were wonderfully told. I didn't particularly like the lead female character in the early part of the book but the more I read, the more I liked Judith and could understand why she behaved the way she did. Willy is the boy left behind, a summer love, a good man. I cheered for him throughout. The ending? Caught me off guard but

I loved Part 1 of this book, but I found the final two parts boring and unbelievable. After reading the reviews on this website for this novel, I was disappointed.
