A suitably spooky book for the spooky season. This is a foundational piece in vampire fiction and it felt contemporary in a lot of ways. There were some wonderfully written passages, an eery atmosphere and some thrilling scenes. However, I did find the pacing a bit of a slog and was also icked out by how the child vampire, Claudia, was described. It was an up and down book for me.
