If you follow my reviews, you are probably aware that I prefer to start reading a series with Book 1. So you may be wondering why I picked up "Murder in the Reading Room", which is Book 5 in the Book Retreat Mystery series. The answer is simple: Ellery Adams! Ms. Adams is one of my absolute favorite cozy mystery authors, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read her latest release, even though it isn't the first in the series.

This is such a great book! I had not read the previous books in this series (this is #5), but I will definitely seek them out now. I was able to pick up on all the important information without having read the earlier books, and loved that the book started off with some great action. Sometimes cozies go on for several chapters with nothing exciting happening, but this one grabbed the reader right away!

Well-written story by a fabulous author! I love her work and this did not disappoint. I loved the shock of the surprise about 60 pages in! I didn't know how that was going to play out but I think it did perfectly. Without spoiling it, I can say I was amazed at how Jane and Edwin worked together and didn't let this ruin them. The book did go down half a star because I am a little sad about the ending. She's making a lot of changes in her relationship and job. I don't think she should've ...more
