I can not express how much I adore this book, not only is Bilbo Baggins a sweet and lovable hobbit but is joined by a group a treasure seeking dwarves hoping to regain there kingdom from a dragon, the mighty Smaug.

I had no intention whatsoever of reading this book because as a rule of thumb, I dislike fantasy. But then along came the epic Duo of Senior Interp Captain and Junior, his partner. Bilbo Baggins will forever be the greatest Hobbit. The Lord Of The Rings can try all it wants, Bilbo is the best Hobbit ever. Tolkien's portrayal of various relationships to Bilbo - ie. Gandalf and the Dwarves, as well as brilliant battles against Goblins and Orks are truly remarkable.

The added chapter with Bilbo and Golum fighting over the ring is

Recently reread this last year. It was not as good as I remember it being. The end really lulls and drags. But that happens in the Lord of the Rings as well. The Hobbit has it's moments and Tolkien does a great job with story telling through the book. ...more
