I can not express how much I adore this book, not only is Bilbo Baggins a sweet and lovable hobbit but is joined by a group a treasure seeking dwarves hoping to regain there kingdom from a dragon, the mighty Smaug.
My favorutie moment is most definately at the beginning when the dwarves arrive at Bag end. With the arrival of Fili, Kili, Ori, Nori, Dori, Balin, Dwalin, Bifor, Bofur, Bombur, Oin, Gloin and Thorin Oakenshield ( all from memory). With poor Mr Bilbo having to deal with them eating all ...more

Bilbo Baggins will forever be the greatest Hobbit. The Lord Of The Rings can try all it wants, Bilbo is the best Hobbit ever. The Hobbit is a truly great book, despite being a whole lot smaller than others. Bilbo's change from a common Hobbit to a brave hero was remarkable. Tolkien's portrayal of various relationships to Bilbo - ie. Gandalf and the Dwarves, as well as brilliant battles against Goblins and Orks are truly remarkable.

Recently reread this last year. It was not as good as I remember it being. The end really lulls and drags. But that happens in the Lord of the Rings as well. The Hobbit has it's moments and Tolkien does a great job with story telling through the book.
