Everyone's got them. (And if you don't you're lying so boom! automatic issue. ;P) And Christy and Cole Bowen, the heroine and hero of Heavy Issues, they got quite a few of them. Their main issue: mommy issues which led to mold them into the people they are today. Christy's metamorphosed into an eating disorder. Cole's? Well hello Cole!!! My oh my is this man incredibly hot. There are no words....seriously no words.

Okay seriously now they both have issues they have to work through in order to be happy with one another. Christine is self conscious about her apperance. Afterall she was a bigger woman. Some people may not be able to really relate with her and may just think so what, she lost the weight move on already. Those that have struggled with weight will really be able to connect with Christine and the way she feels about herself. I am one that has struggled with my weight all my life so I know what Christine is going through and how she feels when she sees herself. It's a never ending battle. However her struggle doesn't make you feel sorry for her. It makes her seem real. She is flawed just like the rest of us and that's what I like about her. Even though she struggles daily she is still living her life.

Cole is no saint himself. He has plenty of emotional baggage he needs to work through. His abandonment issues are very detremental. However what can you expect from someone that watched his mother abandon him at 10 years old while begging her to stay. Once again this flaw makes him real. This closes him off from getting attached to any females. He has flings, never a true committed relationship.

Cole helps Christine realize that she is beautiful. Sure she may not be a toothpick but she is not fat and she is not ugly. He makes her face herself and truly see what's there. She forces him to realize that not everyone is going to leave him. Although his brothers and father help him with that too when he is an idiot. But really it's her feelings for him that open him up to begin with. They have to work through their emotional baggage to truly be with one another. But we all have emotional baggage so to me it makes them real.

Hello Cole in the bedroom..that man has some moves. He is rather incredible in that department. I liked James in the first book but I honestly have to put Cole above James. Cole is definitely a favorite. I hope to get to read Max's story soon. I wonder who's story is next and when it will be released. There are definitely plenty of boys to choose from in Book 1 and 2. I can't wait for the next one.

Cole Bowen is the oldest Bowen brother, former military man and used to getting his way in bed and out. He's a man of few words and even fewer displays of emotion. He's a mystery from the very beginning of Heavy Issues and remains that way until the very end. Cole is sexy there's no denying that, but at times he comes off as too bossy and too controlling but allowances can be made due to his days as a military man and the fact that he is the oldest of three brothers. "Bossy" is practically in his DNA. He's also intense, so much so that at times he could overwhelm readers and may cause them to be wary of continuing Heavy Issues. Stick with it though, there's a reason for Cole's attitude and remember that the bigger the hero's ego, the farther the fall when he finds the one he can't live without.

Not to be outdone is Christy Sheridan, the newest resident in Alden. She has food issues. Literally. It was great to not only meet a less than perfect heroine, but get a glimpse of her life before she met Cole and the demons she has to battle on a daily basis. Christy's food problems drive home the fact that the rest of the world takes eating for granted, while for some, it is a daily battle to either eat enough or not eat too much. Christy was self conscious enough to make her seem more real, but not too self conscious to where she became whiny and annoying. But while she is self conscious about her physical appearance, Christy is not a push over. She may take a while but once Christy's had enough, she comes back swinging... And hard.

Though not as humorous as the first book in the series, Heavy Issues is definitely the most erotic and sexually charged of the two books and Cole's active sex drive may overwhelm some readers but there is a reason that Heavy Issues is classified as an EROTIC Contemporary Romance (if you don't know the difference between romance and erotic romance, this blog post explains it very simply). One of the many things I enjoyed was that Cole was different to his younger brother James. If he hadn't been, it would feel like I was reading the same book but with a different heroine.

Heavy Issues doesn't completely break the connection to More Than Meets the Ink, there are appearances by James, Tate, Elle and of course, Max, the youngest Bowen brother (who I am hoping will get his own book soon). Between that and the sexy hookups between Cole and Christy, Heavy Issues lives up to its status as an erotic contemporary.

The heroine has a eating disorder which is portrayed really well and not just mentioned in passing but actually discussed a lot. I really liked that. The hero played a big part in helping her accepting herself and that was so well done! The hero has some serious trust issues himself. He is more the brooding (and grunting) type and normally doesn't let a woman get close to him. The heroine wiggles her way in his life in totally unpretentious way which I loved!

I loved Cole's story!!! You can't help but fall in love with him even with his abandonment issues. He fought so hard not to fall in love with Christy, when in the end it was out of his hands. Like they say love conquers all. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. ...more
