The personal notes and anecdotes make this a lot less dry of a read than similar books dealing with the same subject matter, without sacrificing historical accuracy. A great study of Palestinian history and foreign affairs account of its relationship to zionists around the world, especially the state of Israel. Khalidi writes back to empire in the hopes that the fate of his people in the hands of western readers, particularly Americans. It's hard to say at this juncture if he's right about this strategy, but his careful history shows why he believes all other strategies tried in the past century have failed.
