I don't have the words to accurately describe the importance of this book. All I can do is sit with the knowledge of how human beings can treat each other in the ugliest and most dehumanizing manners imaginable. It's not that I wasn't already aware of this part of ourselves, but I still have to sit in the discomfort of my history and my present.

When wanting to correct or improve your learning on slavery, start with this book.

Myths are busted, stories are told with empathy and understanding and are humanised to avoid emotional arguments.

a profound book about american slavery. explored are several locations very or most important to the transatlantic slave trade. cities both north & south & also one overseas; former plantations turned museum or turned prison; & a battlefield turned cemetary meeting place of modern confederate racist traitors. each location uniquely & profoundly significant.
