I don't have the words to accurately describe the importance of this book. All I can do is sit with the knowledge of how human beings can treat each other in the ugliest and most dehumanizing manners imaginable. It's not that I wasn't already aware of this part of ourselves, but I still have to sit in the discomfort of my history and my present.

a profound book about american slavery. explored are several locations very or most important to the transatlantic slave trade. cities both north & south & also one overseas; former plantations turned museum or turned prison; & a battlefield turned cemetary meeting place of modern confederate racist traitors. each location uniquely & profoundly significant.
