The gang's all here in this book. That alone is worth rejoicing, if you are into the complicated characters that grace the pages of anything written by S.E.Jakes.

Prophet and Tom are drawn into a clandestine mission which brings the members of Prophet's old SEAL team together. Now Prophet hopes to put old ghosts to rest, while eliminating Sadiq and John. This is my second read of Daylight Again and I honestly have no idea why I missed reviewing it the first time around. I’m fixing that now though, just in time for me to start reading the final book in S.E. Jakes’ Hell or High Water series, If I Ever. Regardless of why I committed to this re-read, I’m really glad I did. Mainly because there is SO much that I forgot. Daylight Again is the third book in the continuing story of one of my favorite romantic couples: Tommy Boudreaux and Prophet Drews. As the main characters in the Hell or High Water series, their story is shared over the course of the entire series and therefore, the books should be read sequentially for maximum impact and enjoyment.

The third story opens with Proph having another of his intense flashbacks, however, this time we learn about the time he was captured and tortured by the CIA. The third story opens with Proph having another of his intense flashbacks, however, this time we learn about the time he was captured and tortured by the CIA. Unfortunately it is just as bad, if not worse, than what happened to him when captured by the terrorist Azar. As the pieces of Proph’s past start to fall in place, Tommy, and the reader, begins to get the whole picture of what makes Prophet the man he is.

Daylight Again is such an amazing story for those who have been with the couple since the first book. Prophet finally lets Tommy into his life… all the way in. Not only is the pair living together, but Prophet introduces Tom to his team and asks him to join them on a mission to save a buddy who has been kidnapped. The author has done an amazing job over the course of the series building up these two men and developing their characters with the perfect amount of backstory, trials, and tribulation, that the trust is completely justified, natural, and necessary at this juncture of the story. The bond that has formed between the pair is so true that I want to be part of it. And it is because of the bonds created that the author can take this pair to that place where each is at his most vulnerable, yet completely safe.

In addition, because of Tom’s attention, affection, and dare I say love, Prophet is finally able to admit out loud that John is probably alive and the head of a terrorist cell. While this news isn’t new for those that read the spinoff novella, Dirty Deeds, which I feel should be read as part of this series, it is the first time we read about it coming from Prophet. I admire how Tom’s belief in Proph cannot be shaken. I also love how each has learned when to give space and when to push.

The team is getting closer to Sadiq, the terrorist introduced in the first book. In addition, clues are coming in as to whether or not John is still alive. There is significant forward movement in the overall story arc, and while there is still story left to go, I feel the author does a great job giving the reader real meat and providing excellent balance between gains and losses. In addition, the tides have really turned with Prophet and Cillian. The root of the mistrust develops in Dirty Deeds, which is another reason why I feel one should read it. Proph knows Cillian did something to Mal and is angry. He doesn’t have room for Cillian in his life any longer, and I’m glad that this distraction is gone from Proph and Tom’s relationship.

Daylight Again is such a wonderful story, particularly for those who have read the entire series. I loved the intensity found throughout the book - in the high octane action, the mystery and suspense, and the emotional love story. Tom and Prophet are such an amazing couple because the pair continues to grow, learn, accept, and commit. Plus, the book ends with a little bit of a jolt that has me excited and primed for the next story. I highly encourage readers to pick up the Hell or High Water series!

This series is one of the best I have read. Prophet and Tom are a force to be reckoned with. The showdown is coming and the two of them are going to be in a fight for their lives. I look forward to the final book in this series.
