They say that “Timing is everything.” Well, I think I am a victim of bad timing regarding the reading of this book. I really enjoy the work of Khaled Hosseini, but this book for me was just ‘ok’. The characters were straight forward and perhaps a bit simplistic. This book is also emotional. You could not escape feeling some sadness or anger. I do not even have words to describe how wonderful this book was.
I purposely tried to read the last 50 pages extra slowly, just so that I won't have to ever finish this book.
For the first time, I almost cried at the end of the book, because of the marvelous characters, the meaning and importance of love in a warstruck environment.
Hosseini's depiction of Afghanistan finally gave me an insight of this place, a place whose inhabitants are only ever portrayed as 'savages' in the media, whereas, they ...more
