Book to movie adaptations; you either hate them or you love them. Me, I’m somewhere in-between. Early on in my reading career I realized that I was never going to be happy with adaptations unless I learned to separate them in my mind. For the most part I do this pretty well; I am able to pretend the book and the movie are two totally separate entities that just happen to be about the same subject. Should be 3.5 stars. This fast-paced thriller takes place at the end of the Stalin reign and is prototypical corruption and tyranny of the State against its people as a serial killer preys on children and a disgraced officer tries to find him. It kept me up late two nights. All in all, an interesting glimpse into 1950s Soviet mindset.
