I absolutely loved this - fantastically written, with brilliant characters, a clever concept and a sharp examination of history. It was completely uputdownable - would highly recommend.
Yep, I knew this was the Octavia Butler I should've started with. I liked these characters much more (is "like" the proper word for my feelings for Rufus? Gosh, he was complex) than the characters in Dawn, and I found the story more compelling.
