Although this story of Roman Britain is shelved in the children's section of our library, it is in my opinion a book for all ages. It's a classic adventure story in which the protagonist, Marcus Flavius Aquila, attempts to retrieve the eagle standard of the Ninth Legion, which has disappeared in the wilds of Pictish Scotland. Well-written and enjoyable, this book will particularly appeal to anyone interested in 2nd-century Britain. I recommend it for ages 12 and up, although maybe an advanced 10

A fun, pleasant read. I felt the dialogue was a bit strained at times due to extreme effort to make it feel authentic, which I think backfired. However, other than that I thought the writing was good. The story was definitely interesting; intriguing enough to keep me hooked. :-)
