Alas, this is not on the same level as the Shardlake series, which was disappointing as that was the reason I picked this up.
I can appreciate the atmosphere that Sansom created. It was bleak and threatening, and was really fitting for a novel where Hitler had won WW2 - pretty much before it had even started. I found myself pondering on Sansom's speculations of what England would have been like, and I don't think he was far off. Thankfully, we won't find out.
