This book has great characters, great banter, several places that made me laugh, and several of the characters aren't what you'd expect.

The reason I volley on the amount of stars is that there were a few things that jarred me out of the story while reading-- the flashbacks in the beginning, the explanation of LE terms in dialogue, and (SPOILER SPOILER SORT OF SPOILER) the fact that the majority of the book takes place in about 2 weeks' time and then the 4 to 4.5 stars, leaning heavily toward 4.5

I actually really wanted to read what would have happened in between because that feels like it could have been a book all on its own. With so many huge life changes that occurred during the book, I really wanted to read how they dealt with it all.

That being said, the rest of it was great, and those weren't big enough issues to make me not like this book and especially the characters.

I have to admit that in the beginning I didn't know if I liked Austin but I rolled with it because I assumed (correctly) that it was just the way his personality was and I'd come to learn more of the why later. I was not disappointed with this and in fact it was cool because other characters pointed out the parts of his personality that at first threw me off, and Austin's reckless disregard of that via humor made me like him.

Peter, I loved from the start. First scene I saw him, I loved the dude for his glares and surliness, and my enjoyment of him as a character never diminished-- only grew.

I also like the side characters. In particular, Cai is interesting. And I liked Luis. And... okay I won't just list all the names.

One of the coolest parts of this book is that it was clear how much research Dani did in the writing of it. And I loved that there were real life consequences to recklessness. And, although there are books or series that try to throw out the idea of instalove or everything changing in a couple of weeks, this is one of the few books I've read where IT WORKS.

I want to say more but I stayed up super late reading this book in one go and am taking time out of my day I shouldn't to write this review while it's all still fresh in my mind. Suffice it to say, I'll be happy to read more of this series :)

Excellent story with witty characters that keep you intrigued around every turn. Loved Peter, and adored Austin even when he's being an asshole. Dani is truly an excellent author and I'm excited for Cai's story. ...more
