So far I read the first story in this anthology which is the title of the book "Out of the Garden" and so far I am very impressed. The first story is a blend of Sword and Sorcery and even some theology thrown in for good measure. Kabar of El Shazzar is the hero in the vein of Conan, Elric, and Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser as well as Elak of Atlantis and more. The setting seems to be old testament times although this is in a fantasy vein more than historical fiction. The author is a Robert E Howard

- moody and evocative
- the Mesopotamian background creates a different but successful atmosphere
- stories often start with clichés intro but quite often feature a twist or unexpected turn
