I enjoy Emery's short stories and his on-going study of sword and sorcery. the write up of this book sounded promising, and I really wanted to like it. it had potential, and that's what earns it it's 3 stars. there are cool, interesting, and bad-ass characters, great action scenes, intrigue, angst...and lots of confusion that ultimately overwhelms the story into underwhelming. there is however a very cool nonfiction examination of s&s to close the book.
