It's intensely episodic and in an awful hurry: situations are fallen into, fought through, managed, and off to the next, and this both gives it an Edgar Rice Burroughs ADHD vibe and a sense that not everything is explained as clearly as it should or made consistent with the rest. There's an early battle where much is made of Tara's boot buckle and removing the boot and this being an impediment in some way. Kenneth Bulmer's imagination seems boundless. Most everything I've read by him I enjoyed to some degree. Kenneth Bulmer wrote under multiple pen-names, so you have probably read something by him; if unintentional.
That Ken Barr cover is awesome! Although, it has nothing to do with the story.
