Pretty much what it says on the tin: 14 longish chapters about various cities of the ancient world ranging from the Usual Suspects (Babylon, Alexandria, Athens, Rome, Byzantium) to some less well-known examples (Nineveh, Tyre, Pâṭaliputra (and yes, you damn sure better believe that he puts in all the diacriticals)).
