What Members Thought

Despite variety of settings and concepts, the stories all fit a pattern of being intense and relentlessly focused: the author has chiseled away preliminaries and extraneous details and left the essence of the story. As a reader I never felt like I was walking into a story with missing information and never left feeling like there was more to be told.

J. Thummel is a great storyteller. With “In Savage Lands” he invites you to be carried away. Trust his craft. Three words summarize this memorable short story collection:

Thummel is quite a short story author. This anthology collects stories in a variety of settings, but the theme in the title “Savage Lands” seems to be apt. Excellent escapism for fans of fantasy, especially with a dark tone. Magic, creatures, plenty of action, violence, gods. I really enjoyed the variety.
