I enjoyed this even more than the other Brackett I've read. The emotion that Brackett evokes with ease should be a lesson to writers. A story in the vein of Edgar Rice Burroughs, it's sword & planet that feels like sci-fi and sword & sorcery in one. ...more

***1/2: not the strongest Brackett I’ve read, though still utterly enjoyable. Relies a little too heavily on the travelogue without establishing each location enough for me to get a sense of the stakes. Still love Brackett’s prose though: so tough!
