I've reviewed each section of this anthology on it's own merits, then gave my thoughts of the whole at the end.
Introduction: Check Your Dark Lord at the Door by Lou Anders and Jonathan Strahan: An intro this anthology that purports (as the title suggests) that this is a collection of new Sword & Sorcery, with a mix some classics. As with most anthologies I liked some stories more than others, but I didn't rate any of these less than three stars. My favorites were the Steven Erikson, Tim Lebbon and Joe Abercrombie stories. There are different styles and types of stories in this one and a couple that I think blur the lines of sword and sorcery but overall I really enjoyed this collection.

An overall score, though certain tales stood out.
I bought this specifically for Michael Shea having a Cugel the Clever story it as well as Joe Abercrombie. Both of this did not disappoint but the real star by far was 'In the Stacks' by Scott Lynch.
I did feel, however, that many of the authors in here did not take their works in the direction of 'sword and sorcery' so much as 'low motivation high fantasy setting'. ...more
