What can one possibly say about a book that almost singlehandedly defined an entire sub-genre of SF and fantasy? Jack Vance is a legendary author who needs no introduction, and this is his most quintessential work. Even though I prefer some of his other books more (e.g., Lyonesse or Planet of Adventure), the Dying Earth quartet is doubtless a masterpiece. This is really witty, fun, reading - despite what some of the pedants hereabouts might have you think. Very much an earthy story of superscientific to the point of magic rascals making their way in the Earth's final days. Very much a celebration of life even though the protagonists are rather venal jerks.
