Athena Shardbearer

"Only Evil and Greater Evil exist and beyond them, in the shadows, lurks True Evil. True Evil, Geralt, is something you can barely imagine, even if you believe nothing can still surprise you. And sometimes True Evil seizes you by the throat and demands that you choose between it and another, slightly lesser, Evil."

Andrzej Sapkowski's The Last Wish is a must read for sword-and-sorcery aficionados.
• The Last Wish and most of the series were published in the 1990’s
• They spawned from Poland, not the United States or United Kingdom
• Inspired the Witcher game series a decade later (2007-ongoing)
• More to come, the author and series continue

Andrzej Sapkowski’s Geralt of Rivia is a “Witcher,” a superhuman trained to defeat monsters. After hundreds of years killing creatures, there are fewer threats and witche

Today I will be reviewing The Last Wish: Introducing the Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski

I want to start off by saying I am NOT a gamer and know nothing of the video games. Nothing against gamers, its just not my thing. I know the games were based on these books, and are very popular.

I have seen many people say how great these books are, and that they are very Sword and Sorcery, Conan Esq pulpy fantasy, which is totally me! So yes I had to check them out!

I was not disappointed! Everything I had seen

I really enjoyed The Last Wish. First off, it is an anthology of short fiction and not a unified narrative. There are elves, dwarves, and wizards. But Sapkowski is able to render this fantasy world with enough distinctive brushstrokes that it feels fresh. For example, the elves and the dwarves (the old races, th ...more

I don't know about this one… I was advised to read this collection of short stories first, as "book #1" of the series. The stories were fine, I suppose, and it was interesting to see familiar myths and fairytales in a new and different setting. Still, I find myself wondering what's attracted everyone to such a characterless character. ...more
