Shelves: steampunk, sci-fi

If you really love court drama and intrigue and great writing and can overlook little to no action you'll love this series. If you're waiting for the final scene of The Two Towers you're going to be majorly disappointed.

This reminded me of Hobb's Fitz books with all the court rules and this person playing that person. The two negatives for me was the use of Serenity used as a formal term for Emperor after a while started to drive me nuts. There were portions of the book where it was one in ten ...more

I would start off by saying that I would probably rate this book closer to 4.5 than 4, but Goodreads ratings being what they are...

Firstly, this is one of the most unique fantasy novels I have ever read. One can look at the summary on the back and read "elves, goblins, airships, assassination" and think one is in familiar territory, but that wouldn't quite be true.
