For a hot minute, I thought I was stuck reading a book about fishing. That is no good for someone with the attention span of a squirrel. A book has to grab me fast to make me hang in there. So I struggled for a few chapters because it was all about fishing. I mean, it is The Fisherman. Is a giant fish going to jump out of the river and eat people? Zombie fishes? It's painful for me to read about real tragedy. Even though I love horror it is the fantastic nature of it that buffers the impact of reading about characters meeting grisly ends. The beginning of this book made me sad and I just wanted to get past it. But it was a good thing to read cause it created empathy/sympathy for the characters.
