I actually really, really liked this book. I'm already creeped out by buggers, so I knew this book would send shivers down my spine. There were two scenes that stuck with me and the characters were likable. I don't know what else I can say other than I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes horror. ...more

I have been looking forward to reading The Nest since Valancourt Books reissued it as part of their Paperbacks from Hell series. I love creature features and monster books, but admittedly I had set the bar kind of low for a book about killer mutant cockroaches.

I was wrong.

Kelsi - Slime and Slashers
The Nest has everything you could want in a vintage horror novel.

On the surface the story is about killer cockroaches, but it also features a nice examination of small-town life and relationships. The prose is surprisingly eloquent, which is strange for a story about mutant roaches. But that added very much to the whole experience. It was almost comical reading these poetic passages describing some seriously gruesome and horrific scenes.
