Anna is a weird girl and everybody in her school knows it. She understands because she knows she's... well, she doesn't know what she is but she knows she's different. She sees people's auras, colors around their bodies that change depending on a persons emotions. Her senses are enhanced, so she can see, hear, feel, taste and smell so much more than your average human. Her only friend is Jay and he is addicted to bands. So he drags Anna to hear one of his favorites and that's where she sees him. He's a very gorgeous, very hot and sexy drummer and she finds herself feeling for him something she never felt for anyone else. Only he has no aura, except for a bright red light on his chest. Kaiden. He intrigues Anna and Jay convinces her to go backstage after the concert. And he approaches her. Her whole body shivers at the intensity of his stare and she just doesn't know why he has that effect on her.

Soon they meet again and Anna discovers that they're alike - not exactly the same but almost. Kaiden tells her that they are Nephilim, children of Demons. She has her doubts but Patti, her adoptive mother and a person who is the closest thing to a mother she's ever had,c confesses everything. She tells Anna that not only is she a daughter of a Demon, her mother was an angel, a Guardian Angel. That's why she's different from the other Nephilim. She's kind, unlike other Nephilim who's sole purpose is to make humans do bad things. But she needs to go see her father, who's been in prison for the last 17 years and sister Ruth, the woman who was there when Anna was born. Her father is the demon Belial and he is the Duke of Substance Abuse and Kaiden's father is the Duke of Lust.

She ends up taking the trip to California with Kaiden and even though she knows exactly what his 'work' is, she still falls for him. But of course, he is Lust incarnate. So when she gets to see her father and realizes that he loves her and was in love with her mother, the Angel, things start to clear. Only for a little while. Unfortunately, Sister Ruth is dead but she left her something. Something that Kaiden thinks is the Sword of Righteousness - the only hing that can kill a Duke. He also sends her home flying and despite her efforts, he makes it clear that he doesn't want to talk to her, even though his behavior says something else.

She's left brokenhearted and depressed. Then come the other Nephilim. Kaiden's friends. Two twin sister of adultery, the son of envy and the son of wrath.

With her father out of jail, she learns how to control her drinking, at least a little. So when she's sent to a New Year's party along with the other 5 Nephilim to be tested, she does just fine, and she goes a little crazy. Like, dancing on the bar crazy. But when the Dukes, who treat their children worse than they do humans, call for an urgent meeting regarding the disobedience of a Nephil, she cant help but be scared that it was going to be her.

I liked the last part with the warrior Angels best. Looking forward to the next book. ...more

I really liked this book. It's a different take on Nephilim (children of fallen angels). Majority of the Nephilim in this book are the children of Demons (the bad angels). Each of their fathers are "Dukes" and are in charge of certain sins. Think the 7 deadly sins plus additional few. Anna is the daughter of the Duke of alcohol and drugs who meets the son of Lust - Kaidan.
