At times it was a bit slow with little to no action, unless you count scenes filled with walking as action. While I had to struggle to finish, I felt the battle and ending made up for the tortuous crawl.
I liked the characters although I think the author was a bit ambitious with the several point of views. This scattered approach caused any attachment I might have formed to the characters to be superficial at best. (The book wasn't long enough to accommodate so many POVs.)
