Read for Undead and Unread book club.
I always seem to struggle with those on the awards lists and this was no exception. It was nominated for all the fantasy awards last year and won several.
I think conceptionally steampunk 1920s Egypt with djinn and magic has a great premise but really this was kind of a buddy cop piece and the world building and magic system was poorly explained.
