An old classic, but my first time reading it. This is a quintessential quest/coming-of-age novel, wherein our hero Sparrowhawk discovers he is a wizard, realizes that magic can do bad things, and spends the rest of the novel trying to put things to rights.
Despite my rating, this really isn't a 4-star book. In some ways, it is a 5-star book, so obviously being the (or, if not *the*, a significant) predecessor of many of my best loved fantasy novels. The main character and his struggle are truly e ...more

So bored!
I mean the writing was good, it was readable but nothing happens. There is little to no action. There is little to no dialogue or characters interactions. It’s just boring.
It’s a coming of age story about a wizard and him finding himself.

I think I absorbed maybe 20% of the book after listening to it & re-listening to chapters 3-4x. It was a struggle. I get that it was ground-breaking at the time of publication, but sorry. I zoned out far too often & fell asleep in other places. Maybe reading a chapter a day, I could grasp it better. Not a lot happened, though. :/ sorry, but I finished it for book club.
Can't believe it took me so long to read this. Love her writing and world building.
