Read for the Frisco Dead & Unread Book Club.
I really was not a fan of this.
It is a fascinating (& extremely dry)look at an altered version of America in the 1960s had the axis won WW2. However I hated history in school and this feels more like a history lesson than a work of fiction.
Most of the book spends time detailing what happened in the war and what our characters think about this now 20+ years later. Racism runs rampant and there are favored races and religions. We spend a TON of time wi ...more

I honestly don't get how this was the best science fiction had to offer in 1963 to win a Hugo. There's very little world building, character development, or plot. I didn't care for it and would have stopped reading if I didn't have to read it for book club. The majority of readers seem to like it, but it just didn't resonate with me.
