The book "Water For Elephants" by Sara Gruen is a very excellent book. The main character Jacob Jankowski is in a nursing home and a circus is being set up right next door. During lunch one day Jacob gets angry with one of the residents because he claimed to carry water for the elephants. When Jacob leaves the table, most of the book is a flashback in time to when he was traveling by train for a circus.
