The book is about a group of people dragged into an old mining town called Desperation in the middle of Nevada. An ancient God named Tak has been unleashed from the mine and killed everyone in the city by inhabiting the bodies of people it chooses.The group escaped and tries to stop it. I found the story very interesting and the book itself was a real page-turner.

I loved this book, probably give it 4/5 stars. I thought the plot was very interesting. I loved this book, probably give it 4/5 stars. I thought the plot was very interesting. Like most books by Stephen king, it is intense, action packed, gory, and compelling. I liked how it started off giving you a personal background of most of the characters. It made the novel more relatable. Well as relatable as a book about a mad god can be. The book is just so detailed, well written, and truly keeps the reader from eve wanting to put the book down. King did a great job at identifying the reader with the characters and the antagonist as well. I also liked how he made the villain somewhat humorous, in a psychopathic kind of way. The way that makes you laugh at how strange it is for the situation but also kind of scares you. This book was a very intriguing novel.

One criticism I do have, would be the language. I thought it was a little more vulgar then it needed to be in some situations. Sometimes, yes the swearing and detailed descriptions were necessary to get the point across to the reader, but it was a bit much at other times. Along with that, I think that the possession of all the animals was slight overkill towards the end. The beginning and the parts with Steve and Cynthia (you'll know what I mean if you read it) and the cougar as well were good, but at the end with all the animals making an army in that flashback was a little too weird in my opinion. Other then that, I think the book was very well written.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading because it is somewhat long, and loves page-turning thrillers that keep you reading. People who generally like Stephen King would like this book. It's another one of his greats. Although the best are IT and The Shining. Don't bother with the movies, none of them are half as good as any of the books. I thought the book was amazing. Unless your the kind who scares easily, doesn't like horror movies, or can't stand gore, you'll probably like this book. ...more
