I am the Messenger is a book written by Markus Zusak about Ed Kennedy a 17 year old cab driver. Ed Kennedy is a simple kid who has pretty much given up on becoming anything amazing in his life. He only has three friends Marve, Audrey, and Ritchie and they all aren't going anywhere in life. Then one day Ed stops a bank robbery and begins receiving playing cards with addresses on them. From this point on the story gets very interesting with the mystery of the playing cards and what Ed must do. From this point on the story gets very interesting with the mystery of the playing cards and what Ed must do. Basically this book was a great time to read because of the mystery that surrounded the cards.

I really enjoyed reading I am the Messenger there is probably a little bit of Ed Kennedy in all of us. Most people are like Ed at the beginning of the story and haven't met their full potential. This creates something for people to really relate to and keeps you interested as Ed grows throughout the story. Another awesome part of the I am the Messenger is mystery of the playing cards. What does Ed get these cards and who is sending him them? This is also one of my favorite things about the story because it really keeps you interested. Besides that the only other thing I can add is that its a very fast read. It goes by very quickly and doesn't involve too much thinking and eventually everything is explained to you.

There are only a few things I can say i didn't like about this book. One thing, which really wasn't too big of a deal, was some of the language used. Since the author is Australian it came through in some of his vocabulary. This was very minor, but some thing he wrote I just wasn't used to reading. The only other thing is that at the end of the story the author doesn't give you a chance to make your own guesses about who the guy is telling Ed to do all of these things. He comes out and tells you basically everything about the guy you might of wanted to leave up to the imagination.

Overall I had a great time reading this book and would recommend it to a casual reader who doesn't want to think too deeply about anything hidden in the story. Everything you could want to know is basically presented to you in the story. If you find mystery and a few plot twists interesting this is the book for you. ...more
