Not since the last blue moon has a book taken my attention hostage, but when I got around to picking up my battered copy of Ender's Game, the week since then has seen a return of some of the excitement that petered out after the Harry Potter series ended, along with my childhood, or understanding that George R. R. Martin has kindly seen fit to take all the time, notwithstanding its short supply, in the world in finishing his. But I digress.

This was an OK book but never really entralled me. I was a bit put off by the stated premise of girls being largely excluded from the battle school because evolution had worked against them. It seems like he did not really know how to end the book so it went with a bit of a whimper. Really 2.5 stars.

Enders Game has been described as "thinly disguised Nazi Propaganda" and as "an Apologia for Hitler". A wunderkind unwittingly slaughters an inferior race, but retains his childlike innocence AND his innate moral superiority. Read with reverence by spindly geeks everywhere, this hackneyed potboiler has achieved "cult" status, mostly amongst those who lust for the power to commit genocide and fear the moral censure that would ordinarily accompany such an act. ...more
