I keep reading Ian McEwan because he has several books on the 1001 books to read before you die list, but he has yet to win me over. His books are quick reads, and certainly not something I have to fight to get through, but for whatever reason, he just doesn't do it for me. I think he is an excellent writer, his style and word choice is really good, but for me his books miss the spark that make me put it down and say "wow" at the end. Just no "X factor" for me. ...more
