Ugh, Russian literature.
No offense to the genius authors, but this genre is not for me.
I believe it was a P.G. Wodehouse novel I read, where the characters discuss a Russian play they attended. (I paraphrase.) "It was dreadful. Just a pack of peasants standing about and wondering whether Uncle Ivan was going to hang himself in the barn."

Absolutely beautiful and poignant narration.
Though it bored me a little at the start with the long verbose monologue and the mismatched emotions of the audio book narrator but by the middle of the fourth night the book started to grow on me quite much.
Having watched an Indian movie based on the short story I pretty much compared the book to the epicness of the movie but it did come close at the end when the story got really tragic and the narrator took up the emotions up a notch.

If you have ever felt being friend-zoned by anyone, or it is you who have actually friend-zoned someone, it's a perfect book for you hahaha.
But seriously though, this gives you the perspective of how the other person-who-was-left-behind-alone-and-sad-and-quite-pathetic's feeling; beautifully packaged in Dostoevsky's observant style of writing.
