Of Human Bondage opened slowly and, at times, I felt like I was being put to sleep by the monotony of Philip's early life. It wasn't until Philip quit school and went to Heidelberg that things became engaging. There were a lot of passages that could be skipped or skimmed over because of their redundancy. The human condition over and over again with different wording based on the stage of life Philip was going through.

Summary: A young man's quest for life's meaning across the sprawling back drop of 18th Century Europe.
Things I liked:
The protaganist: he was so truthful and honest in his depicition of what was going on. Even when he was completely deluded he reported both his deluded instincts and the sense that what he was doing was crazy. I trusted him despite sometimes loathing his actions.
Things I thought could have been done better:
Sometimes the narration seemed to skip from the main protaganist to one ...more
