I have watched the BBC adaptation of this one starring Amelia Warner and I quite liked it. Not one of my most favorite adaptations but I though the story was interesting and since books are generally worst than movies I decided to buy give the book a chance. I am afraid to say I was bittery dissapointed. This is a true classic historical novel. Written by Victorian author R. D. Blackmore, it was set during and immediately after the reign of Charles II of England. It is a story of rural Somerset and Devonshire, narrated by John Ridd, farmer and unofficial leader of the surrounding community.
