I was fortunate to have read "The Godfather" before seeing the movie version. Of course, there are things about the story that I knew going in, just because the movie has become such a big part of popular culture. Even so, the story is quite gripping and so well-written. You keep wondering what's going to happen, even if you know.

I especially enjoyed the way that Puzo wrote the ending. He made everything come together and make Michael's transformation into the next Don complete.

just a few pages in, but I love it already. I have never seen the movie - I am probably one of 5 people in the USA who haven't seen the movie. Hope the book lives up to these first few pages.
