What Members Thought
The two-star rating is only based on my personal preference. I am well-aware of the socio-political historic aspects of this sci-fi novel. I just didn't like it all that much.
The style was kinda lecturing, like every word put on the page was intended to TEACH something. And the lessons within did not teach me much about anything I can expect here on Earth.

The density of the prose, perfectly appropriate for an anthropology report--LeGuin's parents were anthropologists--makes this hard slogging for fiction. Whilst the world-building is fabulous, both the Cold War and gender themes render this work as rather dated.
