Since this book's a classic, on many a high school summer reading list, I'll keep my comments brief. Tim O'Brien writes stories that hit you in the solar plexus, and then leaves you dazed as you wonder how and why in the hell he just suckerpunched you. He's crystal clear that war makes people behave evil. Period. Finished it before I even realized it was Vietnam Veteran's Day, a level of irony that could only be coincidence.
I liked it a lot more than I anticipated going in to the story. The book club did a good job picking it, as I wouldn't have grabbed it had it not won the CWAC poll.
I grabbbed the book on sale at audible, and it was wonderfully done. The only bad part about it as an audiobook is that there were two or three magnificently written parts that I probably would have bookmarked or re-read ...more

I liked this book, an insightful look at one man's experience in Vietnam. At times it seems to be more of a self-help for the author than instructive or insightful for the reader. Overall, it is worth the time.
