Alan rides a horse, tracks an animal, insults a Pygmy, and demonstrates improbable marksmanship.

This plot summary applies to all the Alan Quartermain novels.

I started out this book thinking it was totally racist. By the time I finished I realized that there was a truer since of understanding of natives and their worldview. The respect they grew to have for each other felt very real. This was a fun adventure and touching story. Could have lived without the battle scenes but oh well.
