There’s good sense in taking five- and one-star book reviews with a grain of salt. For many, it is easier to fall back on exaggeration, of which I’ve certainly been guilty. What challenges me there, constantly, is not letting my feelings get ahead of myself, though this book doesn't help matters. More to the point, I loved it. It has been so long since I read this book, but what I do remember most vividly was the scene where after all the terrible things had happened, it was all worth while because otherwise they wouldn't be standing around eating pistachio nuts. Frankly, even though this is a classic, and the sarcasm is biting and witty, is it, in retrospect, so difficult to ridicule the reassuring philosophy of eternal optimism--"The best of all possible worlds?"
