Spoileralert. Ok, I finished this story today, and it's basically a "fish tale".
Summary: "Well, Today I cought an 18 foot long swordfish, but the sharks ate' em. Oh well."
The story telling is a bit dry and the level of detail is a bit unnessesary. "I cought a big fish, I feel sad for the fish, the fish is my brother, but I have to eat him anyway. I am so sorry fish. Can you ever forgive me?"

I don't remember a single thing about the story, except that he was an old man and he was in the sea. All I remember was how much I liked the writing itself. It was so easy to read. I plan on reading this book again, to see if there was anything to the story itself besides the lulling feeling of reading those sentences.

I doubt if I would have read this book, except that it was assigned high-school reading. I'm glad I did. Classic story about the power of nature....or possibly a reminder from God, that man is not always in control in this life.
