I really enjoyed this book! I liked that finally there was a book with an independent female protagonist who actually escaped the opression she was feeling. Unlike Lady Chatterly, Edna actually did something! I also liked the ending and how it left you kind of wondering, what really happened. I think that, depending on how you see things, you could imagine many endings for Edna.

I understand its message, but reading "The Awakening" was downright painful to me. I hated it, and gave up the first time. I finished this time, six years later, but I am never putting myself through it again. Edna is one of the most disagreeable main characters I have encountered, and I just want to reach through the paper into her fictional universe and punch her.
