Subtlety is underrated. Vonnegut makes connections and the narrator's feelings a little too obvious. It's a sappy, oversimplified view of humanity that I have a lot of trouble calling beautiful.
The novel felt like a way of making peace with how life could continue after something so destructive. I don't think he's satirizing free will, but he sure leaves it up to the reader to determine if it exists or not. It's a nice, easy way to simplify and justify things that cause us anxieties.
