Important ideas of reality, identity, and what our neighbours think of us are considered herein. Arachnophobic readers are also cured, albeit probably temporarily. After the necessary worldbuilding that PKD keeps mercifully unobtrusive (a major point in his favour is that he writes briefly, but to powerful effect), he wastes little time in tackling the big, very interesting questions of what’s real and fake, and who’s who or what, or whether this difference even matters.
