I cannot believe I haven’t read this book until now, it’s a brilliant science fiction “warning” story about the dangers of human manipulation, written in 1931 yet still original and fresh today. This science fiction, philosophical classic was first published in 1931. In a top-down run society, the governing elite determine the most important societal values and pursue these values to the exclusion of all others. The result is a society that is remarkably cohesive and smoothly running and that produces a high level of comfort and happiness among its people - and that is horrifying to read about.
